1. Would you like to introduce more about Shankly Sports Group?
Shankly Sports was established by a trio of ardent Liverpool FC supporters, with the aim to deliver projects, which meet the values based on Mr Bill Shankly’s ethos of promoting football at the community level, while bringing happiness back to the society. We plan to continue his legacy through community projects that align with such a vision.

2. You guys seem to be Liverpool supporters; does Shankly Sports have any affiliation with Liverpool FC?
No, Shankly Sports is not affiliated to the football club or other organizations at this point of time. However, we garner the support of several local supporter’s clubs to reach out to more people who are more likely to share the same passion as us; football and community projects. This is how we promote our group and various activities currently in the pipeline.

3. What makes you started this group?
It all started out with a simple gesture and charitable initiative to give back to the society. The members of Shankly Sports visited an old folk’s home during the Chinese New Year of 2014, along with the distribution of oranges and red packets with a token sum. 

The members felt great after such a meaningful project and the idea of combining passion for football and charity came up to us. Since then, we got ourselves involved with community / charity initiatives, especially those which are related to football.

4. So, what are your plans for long and short terms?  
In the long term, we hope to achieve the vision of sponsoring Singaporeans playing in English Premier League, through ties with Liverpool FC or its academy. That would be an ultimate achievement for Shankly Sports.

However, a more realistic short to medium term target would be to promote the interest on football among the youth and kids, sowing the “seeds for the future”, in the hope that one day, they become professional footballers themselves. 

We also hope to give chances and opportunities to kids and youth who have passion to play football but do not have the right resources for the appropriate training.

5. Are there any events you had done so far?
The most recent event is Jan Molby’s meet & greet session at COURTS @Tampines. We brought 10 kids up on stage to have a rare opportunity to meet the Liverpool legend. Together with Jan, they took a “class” photo and they are called The Shankly Kids.

Earlier on, we participated with Down Syndrome Association (DSA) on the World Down Syndrome Day by having a mini-game booth. We also invited various Liverpool supporters club to join in the buddy walk on that day. The responses from them are fantastic. Liverpool supporters definitely live up their slogan “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

On top of that, we are also looking forward to hold our very first Shankly Cup. The negotiations are currently in the pipeline and more details will be released once things are firmed up. 

6. What’s keep you going and motivated?
To see the kids enjoying themselves with the legends, and at our mini-game booth at DSA, with laughter; this made our day and motivated us to keep going.
 

7. If I’m interested (or anyone else), how do I join this group?  
While we are still newly established, we are constantly on the lookout for suitable events to participate or opportunities to increase exposure for the group. We welcome volunteers for any charitable activities when required.

Group winner: Miriam Girls (PHI) will face Group runners up: Footskills (AUS) for the SingaCup 2014 Girls U18 Final.

In the 3rd Placing match, Football West (AUS) will meet German European School (SIN) at 9am on Pitch 2 on November 7, 2014.

The Final will be played at 10am at Pitch 1 on the same day.

YFH Phuket (THA) enters the SingaCup U18 Finals for the 2nd time in 3 years to meet their Group B runners up Onana Elite Football School from Indonesia.

Onana Elite Football School emerged from one of the closest ever SingaCup U18 group stage, qualifying only by a superior goal difference over the SingaCup 2011 Champions: Northern Territory Football Academy (AUS), to shock the Group A winners: Football Plus (INA) 3-0 in the 1st Semi-Finals.

In the other Semi-Finals, YFH Phuket beat India’s Chennai City Football Club 3-1 to progress to the SingaCup 2014 U18 Final.

Chennai City Football Club (IND) will meet Football Plus (INA) in what would be a rematch of their 0-0 draw in the group stage, in the SingaCup 2014 U18 3rd Place Playoff, at 8am on Pitch 3 on the final day of SingaCup 2014.

The SingaCup 2014 U18 Final match will be played at 9am right after the 3rd Placing match this Friday, November 7, 2014.

U16’s Semi-Finals proved to be a tight affair as South Tangerang City Soccer School (INA) edged ACS Barker (SIN) 1-0, while Milan Soccer School (SIN) got through to the Finals after a exciting 2-2 draw, by winning the shootout 3-2.

The 3rd placing match reaffirms how close the standards of the Top 4 U16 teams in this year’s SingaCup when Football West only managed clinched 3rd place after a grueling 1-1 draw, going into a penalty shootout for the 2nd time of the day just 2 hours apart; winning the shootout 2-1 against ACS Barkers of Singapore.

As a result, South Tangerang City Soccer School (INA) will meet Milan Soccer School (SIN) in the SingaCup 2014 U16 Final at 9am on the last match day (November 7, 2014) on Pitch 1.

In the biggest ever U14 category in SingaCup history, I,PAGASA FC from Philipines and SBAI Indonesia Selection had both emerged undefeated throughout the tournament to reach the Finals.

I,PAGASA FC trashed fellow countrymen Loyola Meralco Sparks 5-0 in the 1st Semi-Finals while SBAI Indonesia defeated Group D winner ANZA (SIN) 2-0.

Loyola Meralco Sparks (PHI) will now face ANZA (SIN) in the 3rd Placing Playoff at 8am, Friday November 7, 2014 on Pitch 2.

The U14 Final will be played at 10am on Pitch 2 on the same day, between I,PAGASA FC (PHI) and SBAI Indonesia Selection.

The U12 1st Semi-Final Winner, Kampiun Indonesia (INA) will meet the 2nd Semi-Final Winner, Melville City (AUS) in the SingaCup 2014 U12 Final.

The Final will be played on Friday, November 7, 2014 – 8:00 am on Pitch 1.

In the U12 3rd Placing match, SBAI Bandung Raya edge Football West 5-4 in one of the most epic match of this year’s SingaCup.
