SingaCup - Asia's Premier International Youth Football Tournament > Latest News > Broadcast > SingaCup boasts physical and esports elements in 2021 edition

December 11th, 2021 | Broadcast

Singapore, 8 November 2021 – Asia’s premier international youth football competition, SingaCup is back! Set to take place from 15 to 19 December, the hybrid event will feature a lineup of both physical and virtual activities such as in-person football matches, online FIFA matches, celebrity FIFA faceoffs and meet and greet sessions with world-renowned football players and coaches from Tottenham Hotspur, Olympique Lyonnais and West Ham.

“The SingaCup has been a staple event in the football community since 2011 and we are especially thrilled to welcome the return of our physical football matches since the pandemic. Last year’s eSingaCup was truly an enjoyable experience seeing our community rally together to have fun amidst these unprecedented times, and we believe this year’s edition will provide fans with a great, holistic hybrid experience,” said tournament director, Mr Selvakumar Panneerselvam.

Ms Ong Ling Lee, Director Sports and Wellness at the Singapore Tourism Board added: “Despite the continued challenges of this pandemic, we are glad that SingaCup is back with an innovative hybrid format – with opportunities for youths to participate in physical matches safely. We hope the event will keep Singapore top of mind among the international football community and inspire them to experience Singapore in person soon.”

The SingaCup will boast the return of in-person football through 4v4 youth football matches and football day camps. The 4v4 matches will take place on 18 and 19 December and will be open to boys and girls living in Singapore. There will be three categories available for signup – U14, U16 and Open (girls only), with the top three winners from each category walking away with medals.
The SingaCup will also organise football camps for youths aged 13 to 17. These camps are open to youths of all abilities, including those with special needs. An additional all-inclusive camp for youths with special needs will also be organised in collaboration with SingaChamps, which provides sports and arts training to youths with autism. All camps will be conducted by certified coaches and professional football players. Matches and camps will adhere to the prevailing safe management measures to ensure the safety of all participants and the community.

In addition to the physical elements, this year’s edition of the event will also include an online FIFA competition which was introduced during last year’s eSingaCup. FIFA, a popular online football game, allows players to compete against their opponents by creating their own teams and taking control of their favourite players. The competition will be broken into two categories – an individual 1v1 category and a 11v11 team category. Winners of the 1v1 FIFA category will stand a chance at winning from a cash prize pool of SGD$1,120 while teams in the 11v11 category will compete for a pool of SGD$2,000.

The FIFA matches will be streamed live on SingaCup’s Facebook and YouTube pages starting from the 15 of December. Fans can also be entertained by the likes of Haneri (Daphne Khoo), Iryan Fandi, Zaiful Nizam, and more during the celebrity faceoff as they battle it out to uncover the best FIFA player among them. They will also be an online Q&A as well as meet and greet sessions with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Cho So Hyun, Olympique Lyonnais defender Ellie Carpenter and West Ham Women U21 coach Stephen Opoka.

Midfielder Cho So Hyun said “I am really excited to be a part of this year’s SingaCup and am grateful for the opportunity to be able to share my experiences and thoughts with Singapore’s football community; especially with the women and girls who are passionate about the sport. It’s always nice to chat with female footballers from other countries and exchange stories about our favourite sport, and I look forward to meeting all of you.”

Participants who are interested in taking part in the 4v4 physical match and 1v1 FIFA competition above may register their interest at the SingaCup website. Slots for the 11v11 FIFA competition have been fully subscribed.

To catch the exciting lineup of programmes and matches, viewers can head over to SingaCup’s Facebook page, Twitch and YouTube channel.
