SINGAPORE, KAIDAH.ID – The steps of the Palu Selection U-14 Team must be stopped in the last eight of the 2025 Linga Cup, after losing narrowly 0-1 to Newland Football Academy, Depok, in a derby match with fellow Indonesians which took place at the Lion City Sailors Training Centre, Singapore, Thursday, November 5, 2025.
The match was tight from the first minute. Both teams appeared insistent, and pressed each other with almost balanced chances. However, fate was not on Palu Selection’s side, after the referee awarded a penalty to the opposing team in the last minutes of the second half, which ultimately became the decisive victory for Newland Football Academy.
Team official, Gamal Hakim, said that this result remains a matter of pride for Palu Selection. “The children have fought extraordinarily. They played disciplined and full of passion until the end. This defeat is not the end, but the beginning of their long journey towards a better future of football,” Gamal said.
Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, Abcandra Mohammad Akbar Supratman, who from the beginning provided support for the team, also expressed his appreciation for the struggle of Palu Selection. “They have shown a champion mentality and the spirit of never giving up. Even though they fell in the top eight, they have made Central Sulawesi and Indonesia proud in the international arena,” said Akbar.
With this result, Palu Selection had to be satisfied with ending the struggle in the last eight. However, the spirit and struggle of the young people of Central Sulawesi in Singapore is clear evidence that they have great potential to continue to develop and compete at a higher level and go home with their heads held high.
