KARACHI: Lyari Football Academy created history on Wednesday when it stormed into the final of Singa Cup 2025, Asia’s largest youth football tournament currently underway in Singapore.
The Under-16 national side from Karachi’s football heartland, representing Pakistan on the international stage, defeated Indonesia’s highly rated Top Tang Ebola FC 1–0 in a tense semifinal to seal their place in the championship clash.
This victory means that Lyari Football Academy has already won a silver medal but will fight for gold in the coming final-a feat which no Pakistani youth team has ever achieved in the prestigious event’s history.
Both sides struggled hard, but the winning goal came after the second half’s midpoint. The disciplined defense and creative midfield play of LFA frustrated the Indonesian attack and allowed the Pakistani side to seize control and convert their lone chance into the match-winning strike.
Head coach Tariq Taj led the tributes, along with assistant coach Zubair Faiz, for the players’ composure and teamwork throughout the game, describing the result as a reward for “months of dedication and disciplined preparation.”
“These young boys have proved that with hard work and unity, nothing is impossible. They have brought pride not just to Lyari but to all of Pakistan,” said coach Taj after the match.
Having been at the forefront of grooming young talent in Karachi’s most ardent sporting locality, the academy’s grassroots initiative has now attained international recognition.
Football fans in Lyari celebrated the victory with cheers, terming it a defining moment for the area that has produced some of Pakistan’s most talented players. Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages from fans, athletes, and officials throughout the country.
Founded with the mission of cultivating youth football talent and encouraging positive community engagement through sports, the success of Lyari Football Academy in Singapore is being hailed as a beacon of resilience and hope.
The team will now face the winner of the other semifinal between Singapore Youth FC and Malaysia United in the Singa Cup 2025 final, scheduled for later this week. If they win, Lyari Football Academy will be the first Pakistani team ever to hold the title in the tournament’s decade-long history-a proud chapter in the country’s emerging football scene.
