Singapore, 20 December 2021 – The SingaCup 2021, Asia’s premier international youth football competition, concluded on a high on Sunday, 19 December. With the event adopting a hybrid format for the first time, the final day saw the crowning of winners of the 4v4 football tournament, as well as the FIFA online competition.

The two-day 4v4 football tournament at The Cage Sports Park featured 318 players participating across four age groups: Boys’ Under-14, Boys’ Under-16, Girls’ Under-16 and Girls’ Open. In addition to the football tournament, there was an online FIFA competition which saw a total of 784 participants across two categories: 1v1 and 11v11. The winners are as follows:

Outside of the competition arena, the SingaCup 2021 also featured football day camps for kids and a celebrity FIFA challenge featuring stars that included former Singapore captain Aide Iskandar, singer-songwriter Haneri (Daphne Khoo), and local footballers Madhu Mohana, Zaiful Nizam and Iryan Fandi. There were also virtual meet and greet sessions with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Cho So-hyun, Olympique Lyonnais defender Ellie Carpenter and West Ham Women U21 coach Stephen Opoka.

Carpenter, who played for Australia at the 2019 World Cup, spoke about the growing popularity of women’s football and gave advice to young female athletes on turning their dreams into reality. The 21-year-old drew on her own experiences as she advised these athletes, saying during her session: “Never stop working towards what you want. I’ve had people tell me, ‘You’ll never make it, you’re never good enough’. I think the best thing you can do is just stay in your own lane, work on you, focus on you and get better everyday. Work hard – your work ethic is the most important and for me, that’s one thing that I have never stopped doing: working hard no matter what, even if I don’t feel like it that day. It’s just going back to the basics and asking yourself why you do this, and it’s because you love the game and you just want to keep getting better.”

Said tournament director Mr. Selvakumar Panneerselvam: “The SingaCup has been a staple event in the football community since 2011, and we are proud to have been able to adapt well to the evolving coronavirus situation to stage an enjoyable event with physical and online activities. It was heartening to see children being happy just to be playing football on the pitch again, both during our football day camps, which were open to youth of all abilities, and the 4v4 tournament. Having virtual activities this year also allowed us to connect with our friends who were based overseas, and these viewers were able to hear from established footballers such as Ellie Carpenter and Cho So-hyun.

“We thank our partners, participants and event staff for their hard work and cooperation in putting up a wonderful event, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.”

Fans who missed out on the matches or who are keen to relive the exciting action can head over to SingaCup’s Facebook page (http://facebook.com/SingaCup) and YouTube channel (http://youtube.com/SingaCup).

The SingaCup 2021 may be over, but the #SingaCupStrongerTogether fundraising campaign is still ongoing. SingaCup organizer Dynamique Konzepts Pte Ltd is partnering Children’s Aid Society to raise funds for beneficiaries. Children’s Aid Society aims to provide a holistic range of residential care, specialised therapy, and psychological services to support and empower the most vulnerable in our community through their challenges of adverse family circumstances, family violence, and child neglect. All donations raised will go to Children’s Aid Society. Those who wish to donate can do so at http://singacup.com/donate.
